지난 4월 한 언론에서 한국전쟁에서 팔다리를 잃은 86세의 미군 노병(老兵) 윌리엄 웨버 씨의 인터뷰를 게재한 바 있다.

 '한국전 참전 기념공원 증축' 운동을 벌이고 있는 예비역 대령이자 한국전 참전용사 기념재단 회장을 맡고 있는 윌리엄 웨버씨는 이 인터뷰에서 한국인들에게 각별한 부탁의 메시지를 전해 달라고 했었다.

 지난 8년 동안 이 작업을 해온 웨버 회장은 인터뷰에서“정말 너무나 힘들다. 우리에겐 남겨진 시간이 얼마 없다”면서 구체적으로“한국인들이 미 의원들에게 전화, 편지, e메일 등 할 수 있는 방법으로 청원을 해달라”고 요청한바 있다.

 이와 관련해 인터넷 상에서 종북세력 척결 및 사이버안보활동을 전개하고 있는 블루아이즈가 최근 미국의 158개 한인회 회장님들에게 윌리엄 웨버 예비역 대령의 호소가 담긴 내용의 협조 요청 메일을 발송하고,  이어 미 의회 의원들 사무소로 FAX로 서한을 발송한 것으로 알려졌다.

 블루아이즈는는 이 운동을 벌이게 된 데 대해 "이 분들이 계셨기에 현재의 대한민국이 존재하고 있고 우리가 자유를 누릴 수 있다"며 "(그런데도) 그 분들은 미국의 역사 속에서 점 점 잊혀지고 있다. 하지만 우린 잊지 않았다"면서 "우리는 이 분들에게 목숨 이상의 것을 빚졌고, 이제 그 빚을 갚을 때가 왔다. 이것은 이념 이전의 문제"라고 청원운동을 벌이게 된 배경을 설명했다.
 
 블루아이즈는 또 이와는 별개로 "블루아이즈 회원 및 애국 네티즌들이 미국의 대통령에게 청원서를 보내는 운동을 실시한다"며 이 운동에도 적극 참여를 부탁한다고 밝혔다.

 한편 인천상륙작전과 함께 한국전에 참전한 웨버 회장은 1951년 원주 전투에서 북한군의 수류탄에 팔다리를 잃었다. 그리고 지금은 한국전쟁을 추모하는 데 마지막 일생을 바치고 있는 인물이다.(konas)

 자유민주주의 수호 아래 전 인류의 번영과 평화를 위하여 기여하고 있는 귀 국의 대통령 (국가수반) 과 의회 및 국민, 참전용사 여러분에게 깊은 감사를 전 합니다.

 미국의 상원과 하원이 북한인권법을 만장일치로 통과시켜 북한인권 증진에 헌신해주시고, 한미 FTA 협정을 비준하셔서 한미간의 경제협력과 공동번영을 강화해주신데 대하여 깊은 감사와 존경을 표합니다. 

 저희들은 자유대한민국의 헌법, 자유민주주의수호 및 국가안보를 위하여 네티즌 들로 한국에서 활동하는 시민단체인 '사이버안보감시단 블루아이즈(http://cafe.naver.com/iblueeyes)'입니다.

 전쟁의 폐허에서 현재“수출·무역 세계7위”“세계 10대 경제대국”“1인당 국민소득 2만불”의 기적을 만든 자유민주주의 대한민국이 현재 있기까지는 1950년부터 1953년까지 북한과 중국의 6.25 남침전쟁을 저지하는 동안에 흘린 미국의 젊은이들이 한국에서 흘린 피와 땀 덕분이라는 사실은 저희는 잊지 않고 감사하게 생각하고 있습니다.

 또한 그 가족분들에게 진심으로 위로와 존경과 경의를 전 합니다. 한국전쟁 당시 1951년 원주 전투에서 북한군의 수류탄에 팔 다리를 잃은 미군 병사가 있습니다. 예비역 대령이자, 한국전 참전용사 기념재단 회장을 맡고 있는 86세의 윌리엄 웨버씨입니다. 웨버씨는 워싱턴 한국전쟁 참전 기념공원 증축을 위해 마지막 일생을 바치고 있습니다.

 워싱턴 한국전 참전 기념공원에 전사자들의 명단을 새겨 넣어 인류평화와 민주주의를 위한 미군 참전용사들의 거룩한 희생을 기리는 것입니다. 증축될 추모의 벽에는 미군 전사자 명단과 카투사에 대한 추모글 등이 새겨집니다. 전사자의 명단이 없는 기념공원은 그저 공원일 뿐 메시지가 없습니다.

 미국 교과서에 4~5문장 밖에 실리지 않는 한국전쟁의 의미를 많은 사람들에게 제대로 전달하고 싶다는 것이 86세의 한국전 참전 영웅 웨버씨의 마지막 소원인 것입니다.

 미군들은 알지도 못하는 나라, 만나본 적도 없는 사람들을 위해 자유와 정의를 위해 기꺼이 목숨을 바쳤습니다. 그들은 존경받아 마땅하고 자유세계를 위한 영웅입니다. 저희는 고마운 나라 형제국 미국의 존경하는 의원 여러분들게 다음과 같이 호소합니다.

 이번 증축은 한미 양국간에 매우 중요한 의미를 가지고 있습니다. 한국전에 참전하신 미군장병 여러분들의 희생과 헌신이 퇴색되지 않고 사람들의 기억속에 영원히 간직될　때 자유와 정의를 위한 공동의 헌신이 한미 양국간에 신뢰와 우호는 더욱 발전될 것이라 확신합니다.

 워싱턴 한국전 참전 기념공원에 추모의 벽은 이미 설계도가 완성되었으며 지난해에는 미 의회 관련 법안도 발의된 것을 대단히 기뻐합니다.

 남은 것은 존경하는 의원님들의 결단 뿐입니다. 한국전 참전 미군용사들의 숭고한 희생정신을 기억하고 한미 형제국의 우호증진을 위해 이 법안을 통과시켜 주시길 의원 여러분들게 간절히 부탁드립니다.

 하나님께서 미국 오바마 대통령, 미국 민주당과 공화당, 미국 상·하원 의원님들과 한국전 참전 영웅인 미군과 유엔군과 한국군과 그들 가족들과 미국과 한국과 유엔과 자유우방을 축복하여 주실 것을 기도 드립니다.

Dear Honorable Senators and The House Representatives

We would like to give our highest respect and thank to U S President, Senators and House Representatives and Korean War Heroes and the Americans dedicating for global peace and world prosperity under the banner of free democracy 

US Senate and The House passed North Korea Human Rights Bill unanimously and ratified Korea - US FTA.  By doing so, you have dedicated to improve human rights of North Koreans and strengthen mutual economic cooperation and prosperity. We would like to express our deepest thank and respect to you with all our heart.  

We are netizens as executives and members of cyber cafe BLUE EYES surveillancing national security(http://cafe.naver.com/iblueeyes in order to keep our Constitution, Democracy and National Security.  

Korea enjoys the seventh export country, great economic power as one of ten in the world, gross national income per capita 20,000$.

Korea's miracle comes from your great country's contribution to prevent North Korea and China from invading us from 1950 to 1953. During Korean War numerous American soldiers were sacrificed. Young Americans' sweat and blood to defend our country enable us flourish prosperity. We will never forget their dedication for national security and democracy. Sincerely thank you so much. 

We would like to console and respect their families During Korean War in Wonjoo battle in 1951, an American soldier named William Weber lost his legs and arms. He is a 86 year old reserve colonel and a president of Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation at present. He has been devoting himself to a new extension to Korean War Memorial Park in Washington. 

That the name of sacrificed soldiers during Korean War will be engraved means their holy sacrifice for global peace and democracy. 

Not only the holy name of American soldiers and KATUSA sacrificed fighting for justice but dedicatory letters will be engraved. Memorial Park with out names of sacrificed is just a park without message.  

86 year old Korean War hero William Weber hopes to deliver the true message fighting for freedom during Korean War far better than the present American Textbook introducing Korean War only just four or five sentences  

American soldiers sacrificed they did not know Korea and never met Koreans before. Nevertheless they were willing to be sacrificed for freedom and righteousness. They ought to be respected and heroes for free world. We would like to appeal our honorable brothers and sisters Senators and The House Representatives as follows.    

A new extension to Korean War Memorial Park in Washington enables us to remember Korean War heroes their holy sacrifice and dedication forever and is sure to strengthen Korea-US friendship and mutual trust more than before.  

Korean War Memorial Park in Washington and  Reverence Wall for Korean War heroes. We appreciate with all our heart their completed design and your summit a bill for them. 

Now is the time for honorable Senators and The Representatives to pass the bill for Korean War Memorial Park. By doing so,  let you and us not only to remember Korean War heroes fighting for free world but to promote Korea - US friendship forever.
